Why the Anchor?

The symbol of the anchor has many meanings:

Stability

Strength

Hope

Trust

Safety

Security

Confidence

I wanted to take a moment to share about me & what Anchor Fit Club IS and IS NOT about.

As with all things we create, much of the journey has come from my experiences.

Specifically and most recently my experience as a Beachbody coach, in big box gyms, and just the overwhelming weight stigma, anti-fat bias, and overall lack of empathy and compassion with the mainstream fitness industry.

I was a Beachbody "coach" on and off for 6 years.  When I finally got the courage to cancel my "coaching" business, I felt lost.  I knew that I deserved better than always feeling like I was failing and that it was not the programming or the diet that contributed to the under-eating, binge eating, and chronic injuries. It didn't matter how much weight I lost or if I could fit into a size 4 pair of shorts. I was never good "enough." My BODY was never "good" enough.

It didn't help that if you questioned the lack of rest, the not being "allowed" to eat when you were hungry, or asked what to do if you were just utterly exhausted or hurt your shoulder you were told either "no excuses", "you must not want it bad enough", or "if you take an extra rest day, make sure to double up your workouts."  There was no empathy, no compassion, and you were only accepted if you were a "product of the product" and toed the company line.

Looking back the gaslighting, the shame, the toxic positivity, it was all so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Towards the end of my time stuck in that environment, I came down with pneumonia.  And it knocked me on my ass for MONTHS, I slept A LOT.  If I wasn't taking care of my kids, or working, I was sleeping.  I had zero energy to do anything else.  Let alone try and hit success club or exercise.

The ONLY message I got from my upline during that time?

"Why aren't you selling?  You need to hit SC this month and be on the team calls." For those unfamiliar “SC” stands for “success club" otherwise known as the number of people you bring in to the MLM business each month or challenge packs sold.

There was no asking how I was doing, ZERO compassion, care, concern, no basic EMPATHY.  This is when I realized that she needed me to pad her paycheck.  If I lost rank, she lost money.

It was at that point I knew I needed out and that I deserved MORE from the people who were supposed to be my community, my team, my “friends.”

A lot of people get into the fitness industry because they love to exercise, and while I do love to exercise, that is not why I ultimately decided to start Anchor Fit Club, a small group coaching program, and most recently the Anchor Fit Community.

I started Anchor Fit Club because of all the toxic bullshit within the fitness industry.  If you haven't had a chance yet, I wrote about the time I fired a personal trainer, this was after my time with Beachbody.  The lack of empathy, compassion, and treating others with kindness was astounding.  Looking back on my experiences, and the interactions, it was never about helping me.  It was about how I could benefit them.

I want to create a space that provides all of that while helping women get stronger, heal their relationship with their bodies and food, and most of all realize that they have ALWAYS been enough with simple, sustainable fitness and nutrition.

Stability

Strength

Hope

Trust

Safety

Security

Confidence

Thanks for taking the time to get to know a little about how Anchor Fit Club and Anchor Fit Community came to be.  If you have ANY questions please reach out.  I am here to help.

Here's to moving more, being well-fed & hydrated, stress management, sleep, and most of all COMMUNITY AND CONNECTION!
